There’s a lot of horoscope information about the Solstice going around right now, but it’s either dedicated to the Northern or Southern hemisphere, but not both.
We’ve decided to change that. So, we’re bringing you the full story, all the information, and the horoscopes for each zodiac sign in both the Northern and the Southern hemispheres.
December 21st marks the Solstice, a time where the Sun ‘stands still’ and the seasons change.
The Solstice also brings the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, where we are encouraged to enter the dark night of the soul, and the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere, where we are encouraged to celebrate the light.
No matter which part of the world you live in, the Solstice is a highly sensitive day where we can feel more in tune with the energies around us.
The Dark Night of the Soul- Northern Hemisphere Horoscopes:
On December 21st, we experience the shortest day and longest night of the year. The increased hours of darkness guide us to enter into the dark night of the soul, a time of retreat where we can go within and hear the subtler stirrings of our being.
Sometimes it is only in the darkness that we can truly feel comfortable to be ourselves.
As the ground freezes and nature goes into hibernation, it can be difficult to keep a sense of perspective. Persistent Aries however, weathers this change well. This solstice time is a wonderful opportunity to for you to take some of that joie de vivre you’re so well known for and share it with others who may be struggling during this winter season. Volunteer work is a perfect way to give back and help your community (sometimes you may have a natural inclination to focus on yourself, and this is a great time to turn that around). You also love a season of parties, festivals, and fun, so get your holiday plans in order, and reach out to friends or family who could use a dose of your warmth and optimism.
As we prepare to go deeper into winter and the days get quiet and dark, this is a time to celebrate life and feast (literally and spiritually) before doing the hard work of conserving strength and digging deeper into ourselves as we wait for spring. You’re a natural host, so celebrate the solstice by going big. Taurus has another reason to shine this season. Known as the bull, this is a sign that is relentlessly stubborn. As we approach the time of the year when we set goals for the year ahead, Taurus is here to show us how to do the work and not give up. If you have a celebration, include a space where guests can light a candle to reflect on their hopes and dreams for the coming season.
Gemini is ruled by chatty Mercury, the planet of communication. This affects your life all year long, but partnerships of all kinds are especially important for you right now. In the spirit of the classic holiday card, why not take some time and write a note (if you want to get artsy, making handwritten letters or postcards is a great way to spend a day, but of course an e-mail will do as well). If there is someone you’ve lost contact with, or a conversation about making something more serious, this solstice is a good time to reconnect and strengthen your bonds. This solstice is a chance for you to really dig deep into what you need for the coming season.
Calling all Cancer crabs-winter solstice is a big day for you! The solstice occurs in your opposite sign of Capricorn, meaning there’s a significant push and pull effect that you’ll be feeling. Capricorn, and its ruler Saturn, is all about structure, discipline, and keeping a cool head–not the most natural qualities for your emotional, mood-driven sign. This is a great time to build on your skill set and learn to keep those emotions in check. A natural homebody, you love nothing more than curling up in your nest with a hot drink and warm blanket, so it’s easy for you to be quite content during the winter months.
You’ll be well-served right now putting your focus on domestic matters, like making changes at home that will make you feel more comfortable all year round. You tend to do this with a ferocious intensity (you are the sign of the lion, after all), and this upcoming season you’ll be out in full force. Creative projects are about to find a home, and your passions will align with prosperity. Leos tend to be dramatic, talented, and most of all, busy, so this solstice reflect on what your priorities actually are. Create a mood board (Leos are visual people) and use it to manifest your greatest goals.
The goal for you right now is balance, integrating your passions and type A energy throughout all areas of your life. Saturn is responsible for our patterns and routines, and you might be using this winter solstice to rethink yours. Virgos are traditionally extremely hard on themselves. Perhaps as we stride into a new season it’s time for a little more ease, flexibility, and play. Honor your inner child, Virgo-they have a lot to teach you! Try and think about how to integrate more whimsy and play into your day to day routine. As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, you’ll be assessing the important relationships in your life and focusing on deepening your connections and your role in your community.
This season is about reflecting on that and integrating subtle changes into your routine. Libras generally prefer small steps to dramatic moves, so even minor changes have the potential to pay off in big ways. As an air sign, you ride the winds of change with ease, so big shifts in seasonal energy usually doesn’t rock your world too dramatically. That being said, this is a transitional season for you, and your eternal quest for balance might be out of whack. You’re a people person, but this season is about learning to tell people what you need. Remember, being part of a community also involves taking care of yourself and respecting your own boundaries.
Who’s afraid of the dark? Not you Scorpio! With Pluto as your ruling planet (the celestial body which governs the underworld) a trip into the mysterious is your comfort zone. Pluto rules over death, transformation, and rebirth, exactly what winter symbolizes. You have an innate understanding of the need to let things go in order to be reborn stronger. This is a time of year for you to experiment, try on different hats, and see what sticks. Scorpios do much of their work in the shadows—think of them as your cosmic dressing room to prepare your next incarnation. You may find yourself busier than usual this season, and that’s a good thing. Just make sure your energy is going to pursuits that deserve it.
Since you just had a birthday, this solstice is less about determining what you want, and more about harnessing that bold Capricorn energy to move the needle in a big way. Get outside and do some stargazing to ring in the start of winter. If you live in a warm place (or you have the equipment), you might even want to camp outside for the night. You’re a natural philosopher, and the winter is a great chance to spend some time thinking deeply and asking big questions about the world at large. You may just come up with a game changing app or side hustle, and this Capricorn season is the time to make it real. Even though it’s winter, the recent arrival of Jupiter in your sign is making all the seeds you’ve been planing lately start to bloom.
As the sign of hard work, ambition, and success, Capricorn energy carries us into the new year to dream big and set resolutions. This is an especially potent time, as Saturn is in your sign until 2020. Saturn is the disciplinarian of the zodiac, responsible for structure, schedules, and routine. If you’ve been thinking about a career change, gunning for a promotion, or thinking about starting a new business venture, this is the time to make it happen. Saturn is a planet of action, so write a business proposal or set up meetings—anything that gets the ball rolling on your goals for the next year. This is a great time for you to work with some prosperity rituals that will help manifest abundance in the new year.
You’re probably spending this solstice thinking about how you can give back. Aquarians are known for thinking outside the box–if you’re looking to mentor someone, this time of year will make that a productive option for the both of you. You’re a true innovator, Aquarius, so this solstice is a great time to commit to a new class or cultivating a new skill (anything technical or scientific is right up you’re alley, so perhaps start there). You’re all about being disruptive, so this energetic time is an amazing opportunity to found a startup, or maybe invest in one.
Pisces is a deeply intuitive, mystical, and sensitive sign. You are highly attuned to your dreams, especially in this state, making the winter solstice a great time to engage in some deep dream work. Dreams, which are going to give you not only a dose of inspiration in your creative pursuits, but are primed to give you some insight into problems you’ve been working through over the past few months. Start a dream journal to track the recurring themes and thoughts that pop up over the next few cold winter months—when you look back at the start of Spring, it will help you understand what you want to blossom.
The Celebration of Light- Southern Hemisphere Horoscopes:
The December Solstice is the start of Summer, the season of the light! This is a time to put yourself out there, to remove your cloak of fears, and to allow yourself to shine!
No more holding yourself back, no more playing small. The time has come for you to leap forward and to celebrate the work you have achieved throughout the year. Life isn’t always sunny, but the Universe brings the longest day of the year to remind us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Joseph Allen, in-house astrologer for Nevada-based Boutique Soul Center Spirit & Spark, refers to the summer solstice as “the climax for our egos.” That means the summer solstice can be an important turning point for each zodiac sign. As for Aries, there happens to be nothing better than celebrating their egos—for better or worse. Take this time to marvel in your own accomplishments. “Get comfortable with the powerful force of the sun that burns so brightly in you [and] harness that energy,” Allen says.
The Summer Solstice can be a confusing time for Taurus, which is why it is of the utmost importance to figure out how to communicate effectively. If you find yourself being swept up by change, anchor yourself in someone you can trust. Try to embrace the new life cycle that is coming your way instead of viewing it as a negative.
Gemini is a social butterfly that naturally exudes excitement. When the Summer Solstice comes, however, it is time for Gemini to settle down a little and reflect inward, Allen says. “How has this year been going? Have you been in control or has the world been controlling you? Find your happiness within Gemini, and don’t be afraid to spend some time alone this month.” During this period of reflection, Gemini should be able to discover what truly brings them happiness and fulfillment.
This moment is a great time for all of the zodiac signs to take some personal inventory, but especially the loving, giving Cancer. “How do you want the world to see you?” Allen asks. “Have you been true to yourself or adapting to please others? Stand your ground like the crab with its claws raised ready to take on any challenge. Cancers will experience a true calling to their purpose with the north node joining the sun in cancer this year.” Direct your love and compassion in a way that works for you and asserts your presence.
Leos are typically known for their boastful nature, but that’s not all there is to them. As confident as they can be, Leos have their moments of self-doubt, too. Summer Solstice 2019 is the perfect opportunity for this zodiac sign to find a middle ground between self-adulation and self-deprecation. According to Allen, “The solstice brings in the subconscious ego for Leos, exposing the fact that they treat others far better than they treat themselves. When you shine at your brightest, Leo, everyone wants to bathe in your glory. When you are putting out your own fire with negative self-talk, you start to burn those around you.” Now is the time to change the way you dialogue with yourself, Leo.
Virgos have a tendency to want to take on any project or challenge, both to please other people and to prove to themselves that they can handle it—and handle it well. However, this characteristic often gets Virgo in trouble and causes them to feel overwhelmed. The Summer Solstice is the time for Virgo to figure out the true dynamics of their relationships with others. “Let this solstice be the one where you find your team,” Allen advises. “Reflect on who deserves your time and who is wasting it. Be grateful for those who love you and cut those who don’t support you.”
Not only does the Summer Solstice mark the longest, brightest day of the year, but it also marks a time of change. Just as the days will begin to shorten and grow darker, so too will your life begin to change. This year, Libras will want to focus on where they are in their professional lives, and where they would ultimately like to be. “Libras will be exploring ideas about careers,” Allen says. “Are you doing want you are truly meant to be doing? If not, use this solstice energy to transform yourself into who you want to be.”
Every zodiac sign has a problem or a concept with which they need to wrestle during the Summer Solstice and for Scorpio, it is all about spirituality this time around. This zodiac sign feels emotions so deeply, and now is the time to make sense of those emotions and how it relates to their place in the world. “Have you found what it is you believe in? Or, do you still have so many questions that you do not know where to start?” Allen asks. “Allow yourself to be open to spiritual change during this solstice. Use its energy to open your heart to new possibilities and you may discover the world isn’t as bad as it may have seemed before.”
Sagittarius loves to have fun, but they must remember that fun typically comes with a price tag. Before you book your next adventure, take the time to sort through your finances and figure out if that vacation to Brazil is actually doable this year. “The solstice is a time for Sagittarius’s to look into their investments,” Allen explains. “Is your money where it needs to be to experience the most amount of growth. If you don’t have a budget, now is a good time to use the solstice energy to make one.” As much as you love to travel, Sagittarius, make sure you prioritize.
It is easy for Capricorns to get tunnel-visioned. This zodiac sign is always focused on the bottom line and expects the same amount of effort from everyone else. The fact is, though, that not everyone can be as determined and responsible as you. Now is the time to zoom out and take in the bigger picture. “Are you taking advantage of your relationships?” Allen asks. “Or are you distant and cold, not even aware of your partner’s energy? Use the solstice to open your mind to the fact that your partner loves you and you love them. Do something special.”
Oh, Aquarius. You are quite the buzzing bee, zipping around wherever the mood takes you. While this is a strength of yours, it can also lead to a little chaos if left unchecked. You don’t have to be too strict with yourself, but Allen recommends that it is time to introduce some structure into your life. “The solstice is a great time for Aquarius to set up a daily routine or make changes to the current routine. If you have a routine, make the changes you have been debating on in the back of your mind. If you don’t have a routine, make one!”
The light of the sun on the Summer Solstice can be illuminating in more ways than one. Any obstacles to your creativity should be cleared at this time, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of the energy flowing through and around you. “The solstice can help you find that passion you once had,” Allen says. “Let go of what the world expects from you and embrace what you have to offer the world.”
