6 Major Reasons Why It’s Important To Be With A Guy Who Can Cook

Okay, so you found someone who you enjoy spending time with and they seem to be pretty decent as far as humans go, but…can they cook?

It’s more important to a relationship than many women realize; knowing how to cook is one of those things that can blossom a relationship into something more than you ever  imagined. How can something so simple be so important? Let me explain.

1- A guy who can cook will impress your friends and family.

While this might not be at the top of your priorities, it does feel good when your significant other impresses those people closest to you. After all, if they like him, it makes things easier in the relationship. Imagine having a dinner party, or a get together, where you didn’t have to do all the work. You won’t have to order take-out any more!

2- If he cooks for you, he is showing you he loves you.

In a relationship, showing someone you genuinely love them, without overusing those three little words, is vital. Huffpost reports, “Performing an act for another human being, like cooking for them, is a form of altruism. And altruism can make people feel happy and connected to others.” Cooking “can help to encourage a sense of trust, community, meaning, purpose, belonging, closeness, and intimacy. ― all of which have been linked to things like increased happiness, decreased depression, and greater/more positive overall wellbeing,” explained Matthew Riccio, National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.

3- You can share the responsibilities, and the fun.

Regardless of what people might have believed in the 40’s and 50’s, cooking is not a woman’s job- it is something that can be shared equally among either gender. If you have a hard day at work, or at home, wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who can take over the responsibilities and help out a bit? Of course it would be! And, cooking is pretty fun too. So he can share some of his favourite foods with you, which brings us to our next point:

4- He can share parts of himself with you.

One of the best things about being in a relationship is learning new things, especially about the other person. People enjoy teaching others about their hobbies, and if you have a guys who can cook, he can share something with you that he holds special. That’s pretty important in a relationship. Maybe he has a family recipe that has been handed down for generations, or maybe he learned a extraordinary method to making Bearnaise sauce. The possibilities are endless when you’re with a guy who can cook.

5- Cooking together at home will save you money.

While we all love instant gratification- the delivery driver dropping off two large pizzas and chicken wings always brings a smile- it costs a lot of money in the long run. It all adds up. However, cooking a meal at home saves money. Especially if you do the shopping at a local market instead of a chain grocery store. On top of everything, sharing the experience of cooking can strengthen your relationship by performing a creative act together.

6- It’s becoming a trend.

You don’t want to be the only person without a partner who can cook, do you? Chances are, you’re likely to be lucky enough to already have someone who can cook, but if you’re not, you should try to see if they’re interested in cooking classes. The Washington Post reports, “A higher proportion of American men — 43 percent — are cooking these days than at any point in the past 30 years. Meanwhile, they’re spending more time than ever before — 49 minutes a day — doing so. Those are up from 38 percent and 40 minutes two decades ago.”

So, sit back, relax, and let him make you a meal you’ll never forget.
