LEGO’s created a new building set for adults that’s supposed to help ease anxiety and stress.
Danish toymaker LEGO has revealed a new set aimed at helping adults improve their mental wellbeing. Titled “Forma,” the set uses LEGO pieces to create the skeleton of a fish, which is then finished with customizable skins. The idea behind the project comes from the view that combining organic forms and mechanical work could help reduce stress and anxiety.
As well as featuring so-called technic elements — which are used to give more complicated technical functions — the set also features a crankshaft and gear system that makes the fish move.
The campaign states a little about the new idea: “FORMA is a premium LEGO experience designed for adults looking for a fun, engaging way to reconnect with their creative side. LEGO FORMA mechanical models are cleverly designed but simple to assemble.
Sturdy rods and parts combine with customizable skins to create a joyful creative challenge. Taking design cues from nature, LEGO FORMA incorporates life-like movement, colors, and patterns. The result is an elegant conversation piece that’s a tasteful addition to any room.”
Who is this for?
The experience has been designed for adults to indulge in a creative project, but can also be used by children aged 12+. We have designed the experience to cater to casual LEGO builders, who are less experienced builders than our super talented AFOLs. We envision it being used as a play product but also as a display item.
What can I do with the model?
The experience has been designed as a creative project for adults allowing for a few hours of off-screen me-time. After the project is done, it can be used as a display item for your work desk or at home, or you can take it apart and rebuild. The model serves as a fun conversation starter with colleagues and house guests.
How much LEGO building experience is in LEGO FORMA?
The LEGO FORMA product is rooted in the LEGO building experience based on the LEGO Technic system, and takes a couple of hours to complete. Just like any LEGO product, it can be taken apart and rebuilt endless of times. The skins come in various shapes and colours, incl. one that invites users to colour-in themselves, helping to further extend and customise the creative experience.
