Philippa Rice is a U.K.-based artist and illustrator who, like Rumi, realizes that sometimes love cannot be communicated through grandiose actions, or intense words. Sometimes, love is the simple things that two people do together to create and enjoy this temporary thing called “life.”
Soppy: A Love Story is a book by Rice, in which she says, “Everything that happens in the book is real. I didn’t want to make anything up, because I didn’t want Luke (illustrator and partner) to read it and think, ‘Well, that’s not true.’ I wanted Luke to like it, more than anything. But a lot of people have been saying, ‘This is what I do. You’re watching me. You’re a clone of me!’ It makes you feel that lots of people are just the same. I guess we’re all normal.”
I see these images and I am instantly transported to fond memories and moments filled with smiles that I have shared with my wonderful husband.
I’ve browsed these 24 drawings and can tell you, they have warmed my heart. I feel the love within them, and hope you can too.
Maybe your vision of love is different than this, but to me, this is perfect.
