For some people, mornings are the worst part of their day because they usually wake up feeling tired and groggy. More often than not, we are culprits to our own misfortune in the mornings. We know what to do, we just refuse to do it. If you’re one of those people, it’s now the time to create a bedtime ritual for a good night’s rest. So follow these tips before you hit the sack to guarantee a happy morning:
1. Slip into something comfy.
Your choice of sleepwear is actually essential if you want to get a nice and relaxing Zzz time. It’s always best into choosing something loose and breathable to trigger sleep hormones and help you feel cozy.
2. Drink healthy.
A glass of wine sounds good before you snooze off, but it’s not exactly the best way to go. Opt for beverages that will actually help you out, like herbal tea (chamomile and peppermint are good), cherry juice or some warm milk. Herbal tea and warm milk gives off a calming effect while cherry juice contains melatonin that will aid in helping you get a good night’s sleep.
3. And snack healthy.
It’s easy to pop open a bag of potato chips before bed, but that’s just going to give you a few extra pounds. Instead, it’s better to go for healthier snack options like bananas, oatmeal and yogurt. Bananas contain potassium and amino acid trytophan that helps you get into deep sleep, and food containing oats are serotonin-inducing and will put you into a calm, feel-good mood.
4. Do some light stretching.
Nighttime isn’t exactly the best time to do any rigorous exercise, but doing some light stretching to help the body get in alignment and to prevent you from waking up to stiff muscles and joints is a great idea. Stretching aids in calibrating your body and getting it ready for a few hours of inactivity.
5. Plan for the next day.
A major activity that hinders most of us from getting a nice rest is worrying and overthinking. We tend to always worry about what to do the next day. The solution to this is to take a few minutes before hitting the sheets to plan the next day. By doing this, you’ll have a much calmer night AND morning.
6. Turn gadgets off.
Say goodbye to your nightly Netflix binges. Keeping your gadgets on at night just distracts you from getting ample rest. Toying around with them will shed off so much sleep time and will result in less energy come the morning.
7. Read something inspirational.
Your brain needs some feeding too! Reading something inspirational like a self-help book or some beautiful poetry will not only make you learn something new, but it will also help you get in the right state of mind before sleep and help you to face the next day more cheerfully and with a brighter perspective.
