Can’t sleep? Get in touch with the Earth’s magnetic field.

A practice that was once performed constantly throughout a day by our ancestors, but is mostly forgotten in modern society, could drastically improve personal health and well-being. Fortunately, the science is catching up.

Earthing, also referred to as grounding, is the practice of connecting one’s body to the ground in a direct manner, allowing the body’s electrical potential to equalize with that of the Earth’s and benefit from its limitless and constant flow of electrons.

Though neglected in modern society (due to the introduction of shoes with soles made of plastic, spending too much time on insulating materials such as asphalt, ceramic or wooden floors, and sleeping on insulating beds) doctors and scientists studying Earthing science have rediscovered the healing properties of the earth’s energy.

Moreover, convenient products are now available that allow people to stay grounded for as long as possible and benefit from the healing properties of the Earth.

This is the science behind earthing.

Scientists have explored the link between earthing and various aspects of human health. Among the list of benefits, researchers found that grounding could:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduce stress
  • Reset the circadian rhythm to be in tune with the Earth’s natural 24 hour cycle
  • Improve sleep
  • Improve respiratory conditions (asthma, etc…)
  • Reduce sleep apnea
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Improve cardiovascular health
  • Improve symptoms of osteoporosis

In fact,  more studies are being done today to reinforce the fact that Earthing is beneficial!

Indeed, research by Chevalier et al. (2011) found that doctors and scientists have explored the benefits of Earthing in the past, but the practice has never been readily adopted in the mainstream, even though study participants had reported indisputable improvements in sleep and reduction of pain.

The research further suggests that the Earth’s electron balance is important for the setting of the biological clock, getting the body’s diurnal rhythms in tune with the cycle of the earth, and reducing cortisol secretion (the stress hormone).

In addition,  Chevalier and his team found that a direct connection with the Earth’s electrons is important to maintain a stable internal bioelectrical environment.

Finally, the team concludes with the remark that the practice of earthing is “a surprisingly beneficial yet overlooked global resource for health maintenance, disease prevention and clinical therapy.”

The Neglected Antioxidant

Oxidative stress, induced by free radicals in the body causes many ailments. It is widely accepted that numerous foods contain anti-oxidants that have the ability to safely interact with, and counteract, the reactive oxidative species causing damage to internal cells.

James L. Oschman, PhD, professor at the Energy Medicine University and member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the National Foundation for Alternative Medicine in Washington, DC, conducted a review of the literature about earthing and the proof of the Earth’s antioxidant properties and came to the definitive conclusion that “free or mobile electrons from the earth can resolve inflammation by serving as natural antioxidants.”

In other words, the Earth is one big and powerful antioxidant!!

Excessive inflammation, a by-product of oxidative stress, is the cause of a vast amount of diseases and conditions. So much so that scientists have come up with the inflammation hypothesis that chronic inflammation is the principle actor behind almost every modern illness.

Antioxidants reduce inflammation.

Earthing reasearch supports the fact that the Earth’s electrons are one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Ironically, most people in modern society deprive themselves of this amazing property of nature!

Further supporting the idea that the Earth acts as a powerful antioxidant, research by Chevalier et al. has found that “the influx of free electrons […] neutralize free radicals and thereby reduce acute and chronic inflammation.”

This inevitably leads to the conclusion that frequent and regular earthing can lead to indisputable improvements in health and well-being.

A lost frequency

Intricate networks of cells make up living beings. In a cell’s micro-ecosystem, mitochondria produce ATP, providing energy to the cells and organs and fuelling their activity. For this reason, and the fact that electrical impulses created within the brain and parasympathetic nervous system occur every second, makes humans and other creatures electrical systems, generating electromagnetic frequencies.

For example, your body is like an antenna receiving and emitting signals. Without a direct connection to the earth, signals get scrambled, the result of interference and an imbalance in the biological frequency of the body’s energy.

Earthing science has demonstrated the practice of grounding as having considerable effects on the electrical properties in musculature and of the brain. In particular, one study even resulted in findings that grounding and the use of earthing products eliminates electromagnetic noise and improves the stability of electrophysiological readings. As a result, this suggests that Earthing can reduce brain-fuzz and promote alertness.

Life has evolved to be in tune with the Earth’s natural electrical potential and its natural frequency. Accordingly, isolation from the Earth disrupts this essential connection, contributing to various illnesses and disorders; grounding oneself creates a connection that cancels and counteracts electrical fields imposed on one’s body in everyday life.

List of Proven Benefits

Doctors, such as Dr. Joseph Mercola and Laura Koniver, M.D., are now accepting Earthing as an effective and powerful tool for environmental medicine – the branch of medicine addressing the influence of environmental factors on human health.
Earthing science demonstrated links between grounding and improvements with the following conditions:Sleep and Chronic Pain– studies exploring the link between the body’s connection to the earth and sleep and chronic pain have shown that people who sleep with earthing sheets experience significant improvements in their sleep and reduced pain.

Stress and Cortisol – a study has demonstrated the importance of grounding oneself and maintaining a constant flow of electrons to the body in regulating the body’s circadian rhythm, reducing stress and reducing pain and inflammation. For these reasons, Earthing can contribute to better sleep, falling asleep quicker, waking up fewer times during the night, waking up feeling more refreshed, and being able to maintain a high level of energy throughout the day.

Reduce Electric Fields Induced on the Body – Earthing balances the electrical flow of the body and eliminate the negative effects of electric fields induced on the body (such as those caused by cell phones, cell towers, microwaves, electrical appliances, power lines,  etc…)

Boosts the Immune System – Earthing alters measures of immune system activity and pain in a positive way. As a matter of fact, after earthing,  study participants experienced an increase in white blood cells, reduced inflammation and a shorter recovery time from injuries.

Cardiovascular Health – Findings show that grounding is beneficial for cardiovascular health. Being “connected” reduces blood pressure and thins the blood. This eases the flow of red blood cells and contributes to better arterial health.

Furthermore, reports also suggest that Earthing can be beneficial for osteoporosis, respiratory conditions, post-menstrual syndrome (PMS) and more.
