Architects design luxury hotel shaped like a massive amethyst geode

NL Architects designed a luxury hotel that’s sure to turn heads wherever it’s located—meet the Amethyst Hotel, an eye-catching tower in the shape of an enormous amethyst cathedral geode. In addition to its visually striking appearance, amethyst was selected for the design inspiration because of its universal association with auspicious properties, such as the believed ability to heal illness and bring good fortune. The Amethyst Hotel design was proposed as part of a luxury hotel chain that will have multiple locations around the world.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the first Amethyst Hotel will be located on the man-made Ocean Flower Island in China, a country known for its literal architecture and reverence for amethyst. The hotel rooms are clustered in the center of the tall tower and will be faced with geometric, quartz-like glass tinted purple. This arrangement allows every room to enjoy panoramic views and an abundance of natural light.

In contrast to the vibrant purple crystalline windows, the interior features a mostly cool and gray toned minimalist design. Each room connects to a circulatory corridor that spans the width of the hotel. At night, the hotel’s central crystallized void lights up to create a vibrant glowing effect.
