This City Is Letting Everyone Pay For Their Gin & Tonic With A Cucumber

The latest drinks promotion in Dubai means that getting your five-a-day has never seemed more decadent. It has been announced that World Cucumber Day is being celebrated in the City Of Gold next week by allowing customers to pay for their gin and tonic with the tasty green fruit.

Yes, that’s right – you can walk into 35 bars and restaurants in Dubai and pay for your Hendrick’s drink with a cucumber on 17 May. You just need to raid your fruit and vegetable patch (or take a trip to your local supermarket if you’re not a green-thumb), and in exchange for presenting the tasty green fruit to the staff at any of the bars, you’ll be presented with a G&T.

Hendrick’s is a gin distilled in Scotland with infusions of cucumber and rose. The company says that the one-day event is designed to help customers “recognise the true value of the cucumber by transforming the humble green fruit into exchangeable monetary units.” Dubai’s celebration is a little early as the company is officially celebrating World Cucumber Day itself on 14 June.

Here is a full list of bars and restaurants that will be accepting cucumbers as legal tender next Wednesday. A word of caution though: there is no point in arriving armed with a whole bunch of the green lads though as the promotion is limited to one drink per person.
